FVAI Vol #24

We’re still growing. :-)

Every two weeks, a language disappears—along with centuries of cultural wisdom and identity (United Nations). But a hopeful shift is emerging at the intersection of AI and ancestral knowledge.

Voice AI and voice cloning technologies are revitalizing endangered languages by capturing how they sound—not just how they’re written. In New Zealand, Te Hiku Media created speech recognition models for te reo Māori with 92% accuracy, showing how community-led tech fosters better, more ethical preservation.

Voice cloning holds special promise: it lets younger generations hear traditional stories, songs, and teachings in the actual voices of elders, forging emotional and cultural continuity. This isn’t just preservation—it’s a living archive.

Just as indigenous communities preserve language, families and cultural groups everywhere can now preserve stories and identity in interactive, voice-based formats.

But for this future to flourish, accessibility and data ownership are key. Tools must be simple enough for anyone to use, and voice data should remain in the hands of the communities and individuals it represents. Projects like Kōrero Māori use licenses like Kaitiakitanga to safeguard cultural data rights.

By bridging oral traditions with AI, we’re not just saving languages—we’re amplifying voices for generations to come.

What is it?

Perplexity AI is an AI-powered search engine and chatbot that aims to provide comprehensive, concise, and up-to-date answers to user queries by searching the web in real-time and summarizing information from multiple sources.

This is a tool similar to You.com which I featured in Newsletter volume #4. It just makes your internet searches more useful by summarizing the results with useful info and pointing you to the resources. Basically the internet has gotten so HUGE that we need something to hold our hand while we decipher all the results. That’s what this is.

I asked :

How do I write a newsletter???

The self proclaimed #1 newsletter and for good reason. It’s just plain amazing and I wholeheartedly recommend it.

I’ll keep recommending great newsletters because we all like to learn differently and hopefully one of these will hit home for you (in addition to this one!) Click below to subscribe.

Unique Feature

Our family tree app has a unique feature worth mentioning. Since it’s a circle, you can change the center of the “tree” to see how that new person is connected to all the other people. We’re pretty proud of this little feature. See it in action below.

Who dares to cover Adele…..RAYE! Check it!
